Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't see the answer you're looking for, reach out to tennessee@abbycare.org and we'll get back to you in a flash.

Tennessee Medicaid or TennCare allows eligible parents, family members, and loved ones to be paid caregivers for their child with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Abby Care is a licensed home care provider that employs and supports family caregivers once services are approved. If your loved one qualifies for the program under Tennessee Medicaid or TennCare, you can be paid for providing approved personal care services in your home, while remaining your child's primary caregiver.

Not every family qualifies, and approval is based on medical need and payor authorization. We help guide families through that process.

Abby Care supports families through Home Health Aide Services. Currently, our services are catered to pediatric patients only.

These services focus on daily, hands-on care needs, such as assistance with activities of daily living and routine support, provided by a trained family caregiver. Abby Care handles employment, training, compliance, and ongoing support so families can focus on care.

This program does not replace skilled nursing services when those are needed.

Abby Care works with families to help assess eligibility and guide you through the authorization process on behalf of your family.

Eligibility is ultimately determined by your TennCare MCO. Depending on factors like your loved one's diagnosis, daily care needs, and physician documentation, your loved one may or may not qualify.

After you submit your information, we walk you through a few important steps to assess your family's eligibility for the program and get your family ready for the start of care if you are eligible. This includes an eligibility review, documentation, payor authorization, and caregiver training/onboarding. While the process can take time, you don't have to navigate it alone.

Abby Care supports families every step of the way by helping coordinate paperwork, training, and next steps once services are approved.

No cost. This program is fully covered by Abby Care and comes at no cost to you. We know how expensive finding care can be, and our goal is to enable you to provide quality care by eliminating cost barriers.

If you contact us, our care team can help you navigate your application with Medicaid, and check in and support you every step of the way.
